SAN PEDRO DE MACORÍS, Dominican Republic.- EGE Haina introduced the media to its new Quisqueya Solar Park, located next to Quisqueya II in San Pedro de Macorís, which supplies energy to this mainline for backup consumption.

Quisqueya Solar is the first photovoltaic energy generation project developed by EGE Haina and the greatest solar energy park interlinked to the SENI (*National Interconnected Electrical System). During a press conference hosted in the Quisqueya II facilities, Marcelo Aicardi, GM to EGE Haina, highlighted the relevant role played by EGE Haina in the investment for efficient and sustainable energy nationwide.

“In its 16yr trajectory, EGE Haina has grown in constant manner, both in setup capacity as well as in asset quality. This places us in an advantageous position, for we are the greatest energy asset investor in the nation, thus allowing us to produce 20% of the energy we consume, and over 70% of the energy being expended in the tourist region of Punta Cana- Macao and Bayahibe” Aicardi expressed.

Likewise, Aicardi highlighted that the most important fact to keep in mind is that EGE Haina generates electricity “with efficiency and environmental awareness, hence turning us into the leading energy generation company that produces renewable energy, thanks to our investment of USD$308+ million in the eolic parks of Los Cocos and Larimat (which will soon be operational), and in this solar park we have the grand pleasure of presenting to you today”. Quisqueya Solar Park features a generation capacity of 1.5MW and is interlinked to the backup system for Quisqueya II, reducing self-consumption that the abovementioned performs during its operations. It was developed with a RD$145M investment, headed by the Spanish company Elecnor.

During the press conference, Eddy Gómez, Quisqueya manager, offered the technical info for the photovoltaic park. “Quisqueya Solar features 4,760 panels of the J A Solar type, made in China, and with 50 SMA Sunnytripower inverters, of German manufacture, each featuring a 25KW capacity. It is estimated that annually some 2,250Mwh, which equal the energy consumed by 1,000 rural homes year-long”, Gómez explained.

EGEHAINA is clearly committed. That commitment is sustainable development and preserving the environment, according to its GM, Marcelo Aicardi.

Proof of this is its recent development, a solar energy park with a generation capacity of 1.5MW, which feeds close to 50% of the internal feed required by the Quisqueya II Plant, located in San Pedro de Macorís. This project involved an investment of RD$145Million, features 4,760 panels and will generate an annual total of 2,250 MW/hour of clean energy, Aicardi precised.

“With this photovoltaic park, the Los Cocos Eolic Park, which comprises everything from Pedernales to Barahona, and the Larimar Eolic Park, currently being developed in Enriquillo in Barahona, close to 20% of the EGEHAINA production will be renewables-based”, Aicardi expressed.

“This is definitely a pillar for the company”, Aicardi assured. This is why he indicated that the company continues to develop a series of assessments in several zones throughout the national territory to determine the potential of winds and solar irradiation to continue developing projects of said nature.
