San Pedro de Macorís. The Youth Symphony Orchestra Foundation, together with the Ministry of Culture began this month a new string instruments orchestral program (violins and viola) at the Felipe Vicini Perdomo, of San Pedro de Macorís.
Tens of children between the ages of 8 and 14yrs will benefit from this musical program that will be developed through the National Youth Symphony Orchestra, and is expected to cause positive impact within the environmental surroundings of said schooling facility, which is sponsored by the CAEI Consortium.
Instructors of this new orchestra are young distinguished musicians of the National Youth Symphony Orchestra, which is headed since 2004 by Maestro Darwin Aquino, whom together with Maestro Fernando Herrera are the artistic directors leading this activity.
Upon its beginnings, the enthusiasm for the program was more than notable on behalf of all youths involved in the project, as well as faculty staff, which values as positive the initiative, upon understanding that the same fills these children with hope and joy, whom for the first time ever have the opportunity to include such an activity among their extracurricular activities as is music.
This project is framed in the vision these institutions have for consolidating multiple youth orchestra groups at nationwide level, featuring a social, cultural and educational purpose, taking music to the ears of Dominican children and adolescents as a comprehensive development tool, thus abiding by the baseline model of the Children’s Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela, which has toured the world and has been vastly acclaimed.
This new orchestra joins the string orchestra already created in the “Santo Domingo Savio” School of the Las Canitas district in 2011, and the Juvenile Reform School of San Cristóbal in 2012, alongside the intense labor being carried out by National Youth Symphony Orchestra in their concert presentation agenda, and the development of regional orchestra groups, as well as municipal and provincial.
