Mayors and Companies Agree to 2012 Plans

SPM. The Town Halls of Quisqueya and Consuelo underwrote a cooperation alliance with Constructora Castelar and the Consorcio Azucarero de Empresas Industriales (CAEI) with purposes of gaining support for the development of the expansion plans for both municipalities.

Both parties assume to promote development plans next year on 2012, according to Law 176-07 and with the participation of the organizations located within these respective municipalities. The agreement was underwritten by the Mayors Lino Fulgencio and Pedro Ozuna and by Rafael Vélez of CAEI and Virgilio Pérez-Bernal of Constructora Castelar, as well as by the Commonwealth for the Development of the South Cibao Eastern Strip.

Work for Developing the Consuelo and Quisqueya Municipal Expansion Plans With Corporate Support Begin

San Pedro de Macorís. The work to develop the Municipal Development Plans for Consuelo and Quisqueya, with the support of prominent companies, of the municipalities located within the eastern strip of the South Cibao region and the central government, in compliance with Law 176-07, of the National District and the Municipalities.

With the signing of a cooperation agreement, last Wednesday the 23rd, in the Macorix Hotel, of  the city of San Pedro de Macorís, among the companies were Constructura Castelar and CAEI, and the municipalities of Consuelo and Quisqueya, and which were also underwritten as witnesses by the Municipal Commonwealth for the Development of the South Cibao Eastern Strip, by the General Department of Ordainment and Territorial Development (DGODT), on behalf of the Ministry of Economy, Planning and Development (MEPyD), and by the company Barrick-Pueblo Viejo, a formal process for development plan elaboration in this two municipalities of San Pedro de Macorís began formally.

Likewise, last Saturday the 26th, was celebrated a massive launch act of all the activities and events through which the plans will be developed alongside the participation of the organizations and communities, aiming at the expansion of the municipality.

The main activity of this act was constituted by the signing of the manifesto “Let us build together the future of Quisqueya”, by the mayor, Pedro Eusebio Ozuna and by the social organization representatives, community centers, religious organizations and political parties hosted in this municipality. Before the presence of all deputies and hundreds of residents, the mayor and civil society sealed this pact to develop Quisqueya with the participation of all sectors to later on execute all projects resulted of this expansion plan.

We want the entire town to also partake in this commitment, because together we can achieve what up till this moment seemed impossible: a Quisqueya municipality free of misery, with healthy and wholesome people, a clean and safe environment, with educational facilities, worthy employment and residents willing to live fully for themselves, their families and their community, affirms the manifesto, read and underwritten in the event. The companies Constructora Castelar and CAEI will contribute with the technical assistance, training and support materials for the elaboration for the Consuelo and Quisqueya development plans, and have also agreed to support all projects involved in these plans abiding to their corporate social responsibility policies.

Within the cooperation framework underwritten in the agreement signed on Wednesday the 23rd, both parties constitute a public-private alliance with the final aim of promoting economic growth and jobs creation; protecting the natural resources, the environment, preventing and mitigating all natural risks, as well as all relations to human activities comprised within the framework of territorial ordainment; promoting the improvement of basic health services, education, culture and recreational sports, in order to achieve and surpass the national midpoint, always according and in perspective with complying with the Millennium Development Goals and with the strengthening of democratic institutionalism of all Town Halls and their managerial capacity. The director of the General Ordainment and Territorial Development Department (DGODT) Franklin Labour, explained during the signing act, that both Consuelo and Quisqueya are the pilot phase of the National Development Strategy which the Ministry of Economy, Planning and Development (MEPyD) has created, and is pending for its approval in the National Congress.

Labour manifested that  the Ministry of Economy, Planning and Development (MEPyD), sponsors the public-private alliances between the companies, municipalities and the central government in favor of municipal development, as it has already been done in the eastern strip of the South Cibao among 15 townships and the company Barrick-Pueblo Viejo. Now they extend this policy also to the municipalities of Quisqueya and Consuelo, with the hope of attaining likewise successful results, stated the official.

Upon speaking at the signing act with all the participating companies, the mayors of Consuelo and Quisqueya, Johnny Fulgencio and Pedro Eusebio Ozuna, they pointed out that the decision to elaborate the development plans within their municipalities is inspired in the example of the Municipal Commonwealth for the Development of the South Cibao Eastern Strip, in which six of its members have developed the expansion plans, three of them which were approved via voting sessions organized by the Central Electoral Board (JCE), on May3rd 2009, and are carrying out high-impact projects for the development of their locations. Next Saturday, December 3rd, the launch act will be hosted for the creation of the Consuelo Development Plan, in the Setllers Club of this location, starting at 2pm that day.

CAEI and Town Hall Officers Sign AgreementSan Pedro de Macorís. The town halls of Quisqueya and Consuelo underwrote a cooperation agreement with the companies CAEI and Castelar, in order to gain approval for the development of the expansion plans for both municipalities.

Through this public-private alliance, both municipal authorities and signing companies acknowledge and assume the development plans which will be developed, between ends this year and March 2012, in accordance to Law 176-07 of the National District and Municipalities, featuring the participation of the organizations and communities within Quisqueya and Consuelo.

The town halls agree to establish as priority the projects which result from these plans. By the municipality of Consuelo, the agreement was underwritten by mayor Lino A. Fulgencio; by the municipality of Quisqueya, Mayor Pedro Ozuna. By the companies Consorcio Azucarero de Empresas Industriales (CAEI), and Constructora Castelar, signed Rafael Vélez and Virgilio Pérez Bernal, general managers respectively. The agreement was also underwritten by the Municipal Commonwealth for the Development of the South Cibao Eastern Strip.

Optimist:

1. Vélez sustained feeling optimistic that throughout this strategic cooperation, the towns of Quisqueya and Consuelo, under their proper leadership, surpass their limitations.

2.Pérez-Bernal said that since the operational commencement in 2010, Castelar has been carrying out community outreach programs.

Domicem Delivers Motorcycles to General De la Cruz Martinez in Palenque

Palenque, San Cristóbal.- The cement producer company DOMICEM, delivered two motorcycles to the South Region Director of the National Police, brigade general Juan Ramón De la Cruz Martínez, for the reinforcing of police patrolling activity in this municipality and neighbouring zones.

The motorcycles were delivered  to the high officer by a commission from DOMICEM, headed by their managing director, Eng. Francesco Cardi; the executive director, Dr. Jean Alain Rodríguez; Mr. Sergio Sánchez of the Public Relations Department, and Eng. Rafael Hernández, Plant Director for DOMICEM, among others.

At the act were also present, the town mayor Guillermo Aquino, deputy Rafael Abreu; Dr. María Elexia Bautista, director of the Tomasina Valdéz Municipal Hospital; evangelic pastor Bolívar Sánchez and higher officers George Mancebo Bautista, Antonio Calvo Pérez y García Sugilio; as well as the councilors, Luis Manuel Pimentel Báez, Moisés Eugenio Báez, Manuel Paulino, Flaur Báez, José Manuel Tejeda and Justice Mercedes Nova Minier.

General De la Cruz Martínez thanked the executivves of DOMICEM for this significant contribution that will help for patroling duties, and that the company has committed to endow with means of communication the police station of the zone, and also provide another motorcydle to the Juan Barón community station.

Franceso Cardi manifested that DOMICEM will continue supporting the National Police, and that they are more than willing to contribute to the construction of a new locale in another zone within the municipality with purposes of station members being able to execute an efficient work in favour of peace and tranquility of the community formed by hard-working men and women.

Metaldom Employees Plant 2,500 Pine Trees

This year, 65 employees participated in the company. The selected venue was the Parque San José del Puerto in Villa Altagracia, San Cristóbal

Villa Altagracia. Two thousand five hundred pine trees were planted in the San José del Puerto park of Villa Altagracia, in the province of San Cristóbal, by Metaldom employees.

According to a press release, this park was chosen due to 66% of Metaldom staff residing in San Cristóbal.

Prior to starting the day, which was named “Join us, you make us more” (Unite! Contigo somos más”), Ingrid Lapaix, VP of Human Resources for the company, indicated that Metaldom is committed to being a sustainable and socially responsible company, “and it is for this reason that for over five years we have initiated actions aligned with this corporate philosophy, whose final aim is to guarantee our operations bet on the future without putting at risk the needs of future generations”.

As part of this social responsibility and corporate sustainability policy, Metaldom employees participate yearly in reforestation campaigns with the purpose of sensitizing the population regarding caring for the environment, and contributing also to the preservation of the national natural resources. Domicem Offers Mass in Thanks for Their Sixth Year

Executives and employees from Domicem participate in the religious act.

Palenque, San Cristóbal. Executives and employees of the company DOMICEM, participated in a mass in thanks for the six years of fruitful operations developed in benefit of the community.

At the liturgy, celebrated at the Hall of Events of the company, were also present provincial authorities and residents of the township and neighbouring communities.

The mass was celebrated by the Parish head of the Church Our Lady of Mercedes, José de Jesús Pérez.

By giving thanks, the managing director, Francesco Cardi, expressed that the mission of Domicem implies a concept of passion and dedication to work, which is part of the success attained by the company.

He indicated that the success shown by the company is the fruit of the work of a group of men and women, headed under the guidance of its chairman, Pasquale Colaicovo.

EGE Haina Denies Polluting the Caribbean Sea in Villa Central

BARAHONA. EGE Haina denied that the plant they have located in this town, is polluting the Caribbean Sea in Villa Central, as was denounced by the Barahona Ecological Society (Soeba).

Ginny Taulé, of the Communication Dept. for the company, manifested that the registered amount of pollution in this location does not originate from their plant.

Regarding the accusation issued by Soeba, we inform you that the drainage of waters with diverse levels of pollution which are being dumped in the Caribbean Sea within the Villa Central zone, does not originate in the EGE Haina plant, she states.

Taulé reiterated that her company does not pollute, and their processes are all based on environmental management procedures.

In past days, the chairman of Soeba, Agronomy Engineer Fernando Urbáez, denounced that the EGE Haina plant was contaminating the Salinas and El Cayo beaches, located in the immediate surrounding areas of the energy generator.

Urbáez said that as a result of this existing pollution within the zone, thousands of species die, reason why he has requested the intervention on behalf of the authorities for Environment and Natural Resources.

Domicem Celebrates Mass in Honor of 6th Anniversary

Palenque, San Cristóbal.- The company DOMICEM celebrated a mass to thank God for the success attained in their six years of operation in the country, in benefit of the community and the country.

At the liturgy which took place in the Hall of Acts of the company, attended executives, employees, authorities, provincial representatives, and residents of the township of Sabana Grande de Palenque, and neighbouring communities whom showed signs of affection and acceptance towards the company.

The mass was hosted by the Parish head of the Church Our Lady of Mercedes, Father José de Jesús Pérez, whom pointed out the support the company has given by creating jobs.

By giving thanks, the associated managing director, Francesco Cardi,  expressed that Domicem’s mission implies a concept of passion and dedication to work,  and this is part of the success attained so far by the company, and the success the company displays amid its sixth anniversary is the result of the work of a group of men and women whom form the company, acting of course under the direction and guidance of its President, Pasquale Colaiacovo.
