SAN PEDRO DE MACORIS. The Consorcio Azucaero de Empresas Industriales (CAEI) delivered RD$30.5 million to their employees, under concept of advance on harvest 2010-2011 season bonuses.
The staff at CAEI received the equivalent of 24 salary days, according to the administrator of the Christopher Columbus Sugar Mill, Alberto Portes, during a meeting with the various representatives of the different consortium unions.
He detailed that this amount was determined after a preliminary analysis of the results for the 2010-2011 harvest, via which CAEI reached a production of 70,326 metric tonnes of sugar, with a grinding capacity of 707,818 metric tonnes of sugar cane.
He indicated that for the next harvest, the CAEI Consortium has the challenge of increasing the milling, reason why it is making vast investments in both the field as well as in-house.
He informed that currently they are working on renewing the sugar cane fields and that the goal is to have over 40,000 acres of land for this year, in order to attain greater productivity, thus resulting in a greater performance per tonne of milled cane.
Meanwhile, Enrique Williams, Assistant Secretary-General of the Workers Union of the Christopher Columbus Mill Sugar Industry, said that by delivering these bonuses, the staff is very happy and motivated to attain better results in the coming harvests.
“They can count on us in all plans that have to do with the company’s betterment, because we are sure that it will also benefit all our employees” said Williams.
