The First Windmills for the Wind Park Arrived to DR

The First Windmills for the Wind Park Arrived to DR - Ege HainaCabo Rojo, Pedernales. The aerial navigators that will form part of the first Wind project of the Dominican Republic have arrived; the project is scheduled for inauguration in June 2011.

The wind parks Los Cocos and Quilvio Cabrera, property of the Empresa Generafora de Electricidad de Haina (EGE Haina) and the Consorcio Energético Punta Cana-Macao (CEPM), will be set up in the Juancho Valley, in the province of Pedernales, at a cost of USD$100M.

The 14 windmills were presented by Tito Sanjurjo, manager of Basic Energy Group (Head company of EGE Haina and CEPM), Rolando González-Bunster and Edga r Pichardo, president of the Board of Directors for EGE Haina and CEPM; as well as Roberto Herrera and José Rodríguez, administrative VP and Director for Planning and Development at Basic Energy.

On behalf of the State were present the President of the National Energy Commission (CNE), Enrique Ramírez, and the EVP for the National Climate Change Council, Omar Ramírez. “We are very proud to say that the wind equipment has arrived to the country”.

“This is a demonstration of our commitment towards the nation, to the development of renewable energies, aimed at preserving the environment and making the services we offer our consumers more efficient”, said Sanjurjo.

Sanjurjo added that the project will have an installed capacity of 33.4 mega watts, which will be sold to the National Interconnected Energy System (SENI) at USD$0.13.

“This is a competitive price that has no production cost, because it does not require fuel. But it also features environmental benefits, since it will prevent the emission of 70,000 tonnes of CO2 per year, and now the importation of 200,000 crude oil barrels”, he pointed out.

On his end, Enrique Martínez expressed feeling very happy, “because once and for all, Dominican Republic will make massive use to its natural resources”.

Rolando González-Bunster, gave a heads up that when the first stage finalizes (June 2011), they want to start the 2nd stage to reach 100 mega watts, if they obtain the proper permits.

The First Inland Wind Park Will Be Installed in June - Ege Haina

The first pieces of the aerial generators of the first Dominican Wind Park were brought in yesterday.

CABO ROJO. PEDERNALES. For June next year, the first wind energy park in the country will materialize, that will produce, on its first stage, 33.45mega watts; energy that will offered to +30,000 homes. The first aerial generators, of all 19 contemplated for the project, were brought in yesterday. The cost of the project is estimated USD$100M and will be executed by Generadora de Electricidad Haina (Ege Haina) and the Consorcio Energético Punta Cana-Macao (CEPM).

Asides the parks in Los Cocos and Quilvio Cabrera, another project is underway, whose concretization will produce biofuel in the zone. Tito Sanjurjo, general manager for EGE Haina, reminded that this project is located in Juancho, Los Cocos in Pedernales. The wind park will avoid the emission of 70,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide per annum, which will translate for the country in an annual savings of USD$20M in crude oil barrels. The park will be connected to the National Interconnected Electrical System (SENI), and will feature special circuits that will feed the community of Juancho, thus improving the current quality of the energy.

Sanjurjo added that another project, which is additional to the Wind Park will be installed in Juancho, which will be for the production of biofuels, such as biomass, to take further advantage of the terrain within the zone. The project investors have planned to increase the park generation capacity to 100 mega watts.

“This project shows the commitment made by our companies towards the country to develop renewable energy, clean energy” said Sanjurjo. Amid the park construction process, which began last year, over 300 persons from Juancho, and when generation begins, 14 technicians will be assigned.

Sanjurjo, whom is also country manager for Basic Energy Group, informed that the mill towers will be connected via internet with Denmark, in Europe, from where the mills will be automatically monitored, as well as any necessary adjustment that were necessary.

He commented that the project investment will be recovered within a seven to eight year term, and that the production costs are not high. He reminded that the cost of the kilowatt/hour produced by the windmills is USD$0.13, and the fossil fuels is USD$0.16.
