Contract is Signed to Commence Wind Energy Park

The Empresa Generadora de Electricidad Haina (EGE Haina), signed the contract that initiates the first construction phase of Los Cocos, the first wind energy park of the Dominican Republic. The company contracted for these purposes, the services of Cobra Energía, a Spanish firm with a +60yr trajectory of experience in the Energy Sector, and specialists in wind energy. It is expected that field work will begin this month in the municipality of Juancho, in the province of Pedernales.

Tito Sanjurgo, General Manager for EGE Haina and Chief Executive for the Punta Cana-Macao Energy Consortium, signed the document on behalf of these companies, alongside Antonio Gómez Zamora, director-general for Cobra Energía.

The wind parks Los Cocos and Quilvio Cabrera will have a power generation capacity of 33.45MW, which will generate energy equivalent to the amount consumed by a population of approximately 67,000 inhabitants. Initially, the park will feature aerial generators in two sizes: 5 units of 1.65MW power capacity, and 14 units of 1.8MW capacity each.

Sanjurjo also explained that “after seven years of wind studies, noise and environmental impact, among other, the Juancho community meets all the optimum conditions for the construction of this wind park”. He stated that for these wind studies, 4 anemometric towers were built, 3 of 30Mt height and 1 of 180Mts.

Sanjurjo also mentioned that the company hired for construction development features vast experience. He mentioned Cobra Energía is warranty of quality and efficiency for the work. In the wind energy field, it is responsible for developing around 40 wind parks with an installed power capacity of about 1,260MW, 8 parks undergoing construction with a power capacity of 294MW, and another 35 parks undergoing development or promotion with a total power capacity of 1468MW. Their experience in the construction and exploitation of wind parks makes them one the leading companies in the wind sector in Spain, with almost 5% of the total power installed in this country.

The numbers

33.45 Megawatts; that will be the power capacity installed in the wind parks of Los Cocos and Quilvio Cabrera, to be built by Ege Haina.

67 thousand inhabitants; is the amount of beneficiaries that will receive the energy generated by these parks.

EGE Haina Will Build Wind Park

Santo Domingo.- The Empresa Generadora de Electricidad de Haina (EGE Haina), informed about the beginning of the construction of Los Cocos, the first wind energy park in the country.

The company contracted for these purposes, the services of Cobra Energía, a Spanish firm with over 60years of experience in the Energy Sector, and specialists in the wind energy field.

EGE Haina informed that it expects for field work to take place this month in the municipality of Juancho, in the province of Pedernales.

Tito Sanjurjo, General Manager for EGE Haina and Chief Executive (CE) of the Punta Cana-Macao Energy Consortium (*officially known as Consorcio Energético Punta Cana-Macao), signed the document on behalf of both companies, together with Antonio Gómez Zamora, Director-General for Cobra Energía, whom did same on behalf of the contractor company.

The wind parks of Los Cocos and Quilvio Cabrera, will have a power capacity of 33.45MW, which will generate the equivalent of an approximate population of 67 thousand inhabitants.
