CAEI Consortium Wins 13 Awards at Fair

The Sugar Consortium of Industrial Enterprises (*Consorcio Azucarero de Empresas Industriales –CAEI), received 13 awards, including 11 First Place awards, in the bovine and equine cattle competitions of the National Agricultural Fair 2009, celebrated at the Ciudad Ganadera (*Cattle Farmer City).

Amid the judging for cattle meat, the CAEI Consortium won 11 recognitions, nine of them were First Place. Meanwhile, in the equine line, it won two First Place recognitions, such as Gran Campeón (Grand Champion) and Reservado Campeón (*Reserved Champion), in the Morgan breed. Executive Vice-president of the CAEI Consortium, Augusto Ogando, emphasized that this year has been the best result in the National Agricultural Fair, thanks to the effort of the agricultural industry to continuously improve the quality of its livestock.

He confirmed that with the aim of obtaining the best indicators in the sector, the Livestock Division of CAEI observes a very strict control respecting feeding and the sanitary care of their livestock. Also, a rigorous selection process takes place from the moment the animals are born, as well as an adequate taming and training process of same.

Domicem Signs Cooperation Agreement

The company Domicem signed a cooperation agreement with the “Muchachas y Muchachos con Don Bosco” (Girls and Boys with Don Bosco) Program, thus ratifying their assumed commitment since the commencement of their operations in the country with regards to Corporate Social Responsibility.

The signing of the agreement was sealed by Francesco Cardi, CEO of Domicem, and Father Juan Linares, Director of Muchachas y Muchachos con Don Bosco.

Francesco Cardi, expressed: “With this new collaboration agreement, we are confirming the desire of this partnership to support diverse programs that promote the development of young Dominicans, such is the case of Muchachas y Muchachos con Don Bosco”.

Juan Linares thanked the support of Domicem, and remarked that these donations have contributed to the construction of new classrooms and workshops to the institution it manages. With the renewal of this agreement, Domicem will continue to help surpassing the RD$5M investment contributed to Don Bosco.

CAEI Participates at International Fruit and Vegetable Trade Show

With the aim of broadening their market scope, the Consorcio Azucarero de Empresas Industriales (CAEI), participated at Fruit Logistica, the largest and most renowned international fruit and vegetable trade show worldwide, recently celebrated in Berlin, Germany.

The executive VP for the CAEI Consortium, Mr. Augusto Ogando, and commercial manager, Charles Betances, met with representatives of the main fruit trading companies in Europe.

Ogando and Betances presented their timeline for pineapple and mango crops at CAEI to the executives of the companies: Solfruit International and The Greenery Netherlands, of Holland; Reyes Gutiérrez, of Spain; Georges Helfer Group, of France; as well as Inter Weichert, Fruchthansa, Citronas, Anton Durbeck, Frische, Cobana Fruchtring, Hausladen Fructhandelgesellschaft and Zimpelmann Agentur of Germany, among others.

At the Fruit Logistica international trade show, which is frequented by delegations of 125 countries, feature the participation of over 2,000 companies and Europe, Asia and America. Producers and fruit and vegetable as well as processed foods traders, dehydrated fruit, nuts, seeds, herbs, spices, organic as well as conventional products, Tupperware containers, packers, machinery, storage units, chemicals and transportation.

Among the different business appointments carried out within the framework offered by Fruit Logistica, Ogando and Betances were distinguished by the quality of the pineapples and mangoes produced by CAEI, as well as the export capacity of the Consortium.

Pineapple production

According to Consorcio CAEI, they currently have in production, 1,474 acres of pineapple of MD2 variety (Golden Sweet) in Monte Plata, which is highly demanded both locally and in the international markets. In the Dominican Republic, it is the highest producer of said variety and is preparing to increase the production area to 6,000 acres in 2009, with purposes of penetrating the international markets. CAEI is also the largest mango producer nationwide.
