Vicini Group Receives Agribusiness of the Year Award

Vicini Group’s president, Felipe Vicini, received the award “Agricultural Entrepreneur of the Year” awarded by the Junta Agroempresarial Dominicana (JAD).

The entrepreneur expressed his gratitude when President Fernández and JAD’s director José Ramón Peralta, presented him with the “Agricultural Entrepreneur of the Year” award. He emphasized that the entrepreneurial consortium trusts the business climate of the Dominican Republic. He reminisced that the Vicini Group initiated its business in 1860, 158 years ago, when Juan Bautista Vicini Canepa, his great grandfather, migrated to the Dominican Republic from Genoa, Italy.

Vicini announced that the Group is ready to build the Las Americas Independent Financial Center, whose law was approved by Congress. In addition, he stated that the consortium is speeding the construction of the San Souci cruise terminal, and that investments in the local energy sector will be increased.

The Group has entered into strategic alliances with Bon Agroindustrial, Induveca, Parmalat, Pasteurizadora Rica; in addition, it invests in real estate, tourism, construction, financial services and communications.

“As a complement to these efforts, we implement an exemplary program of health and education services, as well as improvement of the living conditions of our industrial and agricultural workers at CAEI”, stated Vicini in his speech during the ceremony at the Jaragua Hotel.

The Vicini Group president concluded saying that the family belongs to the Dominican nation and its businesses are geared towards the economic wellbeing of the country.

Domicem Lowers $12.00 to Cement Price

SANTO DOMINGO. Adopting a proposal issued by the Minister of Industry and Trade, José Ramón Fadul, the Dominican company Domicem decided to apply a 5% price reduction to the price-per-bag of cement it produces and commercializes in the Dominican Republic.

Domicem Executives expressed that despite the high increases in their operational costs and especially the inputs derived from crude oil, with the aim of continuing their longstanding contribution towards the country as well as the construction sector, they decided to apply the reduction. They estimate that this way, cement will lower by RD$12.00 in their price per unit.

Currently cement prices for end consumers in Santo Domingo flow around RD$280.00 tax inclusive. Domicem absorbed the concern expressed by the Minister on behalf of the Government, with respects to the price increase in all construction materials.

“The reduction is an incentive that calms the market waters thus contributes to the revitalization of the construction industry”, stated the company.

Domicem Promises to Lower Cement Price by 5%

Cement is one of the main construction materials.

Adapting to a proposition issued by the Minister of Industry and Trade, José Ramón Fadul, the Dominican company, Domicem S.A., decided to apply a 5% decrease to the price of their produced cement which is commercialized in the Dominican Republic.

Domicem executives expressed that not with standing to the high increases in their operational costs, and especially in the indispensable inputs from crude oil derivatives, with the objective of continuing their longstanding contribution to the development of the country as well as the construction sector, they decided  to apply said reduction, which will reflect as (-) DOP$12.00 of the current sale price, applicable as of today, September 11th 2008.

They expressed that the company listened and absorbed the expressed concern on behalf of the Government via the Minister of Industry and Trade with respects to the increase of all construction materials, whom also acknowledged the difficult situation being encountered by these companies and their operational costs, and he also expressed that said reduction represents “an incentive which brings back tranquility to the market and contributes to the revitalization of the construction industry”.
